Combination – or ‘combi’ – boilers are highly efficient condensing boilers. The majority of new boiler installations in the UK are now combi boilers – this is mainly due to the fact that they take up very little space within the home and are extremely efficient.
They differ from other boilers as there is no need to store hot water – this eliminates the need to have any roof tanks in your loft or have a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard, taking away any worries about frozen or burst pipes in the loft. A standard cylinder stores 25 gallons of hot water. A roof tank can hold 30 to 75 gallons. One of the main benefits of fitting a combi boiler is that you only heat up the amount of water you use from a tap or shower. In addition, showers run at mains pressure – doing away with the need to fit noisy pumps.
As well as their warm air heating systems, leading heating manufacturer Johnson & Starley also offer a range of combination boilers to their Bristol and Bath customers, and theses systems can provide hot water for domestic central heating systems without the need of a storage cylinder.
Their new Quantec Range of combination boilers sets new standards in high efficiency condensing boiler technology. All models feature a Giannoni isothermic stainless steel heat exchanger and, for the HR28C model, full condense technology with its in-built passive flue gas heat recovery (PFGHR).
Full condense (PFGHR) technology increases energy savings of up to 26% over a typical water heater in the market and the HR28C model gives domestic hot water (DHW) efficiency levels not reached before, achieved with the addition of pre-heating sanitary water function which results in the lowest possible flue gas temperatures. Lower flue temperatures reduce the plume to a minimal level on all models
The J&S Reno range of combination boilers provide continuous hot water on demand directly from the mains, via a high efficiency stainless steel plate heat exchanger. The temperature of the water coming from the taps is kept constant at all times by a fully modulating burner.
